President's Message: May 2008
Our May luncheon guest speaker will be Defense Superior Service Medal recipient, Brigadier General Patrick Finnegan, a 41-year, highly decorated veteran of the United States Army. After graduating from West Point and being commissioned a second lieutenant in 1971, Brigadier General Finnegan attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where he earned a Master of Public Administration. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia Law School in 1979. A member of the Virginia Bar, Brigadier General Finnegan is licensed to practice before the US Supreme Court. His military education includes, The infantry Officers Basic Course; Airborne School; Electronic Warfare Officers Basic Course; Judge Advocate Officer Basic and Graduate Course; Army Command and General Staff College; and the Army War College. He is also a published author whose articles have appeared in the Virginia Law Review, Military Law Review, The Army Lawyer and Military Review. From the onset of organized crime at the now-defunct Fulton Fish Market in 1833, to keeping an eye on today's trade market business at the Hunts Point Market, the Business Integrity Commission (BIC) has had a long and storied history. Commissioner Michael J. Mansfield, of the BIC, AAPLE's guest speaker last month, delivered an informative lecture on trade waste, public wholesale markets and the shipboard and gaming industries. He also discussed the evolution of the old Trade Waste Commission into today's Business Integrity Commission, and its mission to eliminate organized crime and corruption from the 1,100 active carting companies, and 150 wholesale businesses it monitors. Our Annual Dinner Cruise will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008. Please note the boarding time has been changed to 6:30 PM. We will set sail aboard the Atlantica, launching from Pier 17, at the South Street Seaport. We encourage members to reserve tickets early, as the cruise is a popular event that books fast. Reservations can be made by calling 917-579-7593 or dropping us a line at breilly@aaple.org. The annual AAPLE Golf Outing will be held this year on Monday, September 22, 2008, at the Village Club at Lake Success. The Village Club is located in Nassau County, just east of the Queens border. This is the same location where the 2006 AAPLE Golf Outing was held. It is a beautiful and challenging course. The following are tentative dates for upcoming AAPLE events. Luncheons are presently held at the American Stock Exchange, 86 Trinity Place, New York, NY:
