President’s Message:                                                             April 2008

Our March luncheon guest speaker was actor and retired NYPD Captain, Joseph Lisi. Joe provided us a unique glimpse into the world of television, movie, and stage acting.  His perspectives were especially entertaining and insightful, considering his art often literally imitates his professional life: a cop playing a cop.  Joe’s life story is the quintessential example of the pursuit and realization of the American Dream.  As he so eloquently expressed, his life-long dream was to become a cop and an actor. He was able to do both.  Congratulations Joe and many thanks for taking the time to share your story with our membership.

Our April luncheon  guest speaker will be Michael J. Mansfield, Commissioner of the New York City Business Integrity Commission (BIC).   The mission of BIC is to eliminate organized crime and other forms of corruption and criminality from the industries it regulates. BIC's goals are numerous: to ensure that the regulated businesses are able to compete fairly; that its marketplaces remain free from violence, fraud, rackets, and threats; that customers receive fair treatment; and that the businesses, which are allowed to operate in these industries, always conduct their affairs with honesty and integrity.

Please keep in mind that our Annual Dinner Cruise will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008.  As we did last year, we will set sail aboard the Atlantica, launching from Pier 17, at the South Street Seaport.  We encourage members to reserve tickets early, as the cruise is a popular event that books fast.  Reservations can be made by calling 917-579-7593 or dropping us a line at breilly@aaple.org.

The winners of the AAPLE College Scholarships will be drawn and announced during the cruise.  If you are submitting a child or grandchild for a scholarship, please read the College Scholarship Application, which is included with this newsletter, carefully.  Remember to complete all required captions.

The annual AAPLE Golf Outing will be held this year on Monday, September 22, 2008, at the Village Club at Lake Success. The Village Club is located in Nassau County, just east of the Queens border.  This is the same location where the 2006 AAPLE Golf Outing was held. It is a beautiful and challenging course.

The following are tentative dates for upcoming AAPLE events.  Luncheons are presently held at the American Stock Exchange, 86 Trinity Place, New York, NY:
